I had a fantastic time working alongside the Just So Festival Design team and had the opportunity to design, create and install my own outdoor installation. My concept for the installation Sailcloth City co-existence and fusion of various cultures within coastal cities and towns. As an interactive installation design to engage the whole family the public constructed their own tents and printed upon their tents canvas, extending the city.
The Design Process
I hand-made the stamps, finding patterns from Japan, Morroco, Nigeria, France and India and cutting them into foam blocks. These were printed on long lengths of muslin fabric and hung on trees. Also, each tent, hung between trees, was lined with thick multicolours fabrics (recycled from a fabric factory).
